'This bird was on the flooded arable along the Cottenham Road Landbeach. Again the same details as the previous bird apply to this one only this is a well marked dusky bird and  a complete opposite to the other bird, don't you just love gulls !!' SC

Not to everyone's taste but blurred shots like this are now becoming very popular in the USA - and what is the fashion across the pond seems to arrive here sooner or later. ED

Glaucous Gull

Glaucous Gull, Long Drove Cottenham, 22nd February 2013 © Steve Cooper
'This is the same bird that has been roosting on the Ouse Washes, the stout pink bill with a dipped in ink black tip and a short primary projection confirm the id and the dark eye and the lack of a pale tip to the black on the bill confirm that it is a juvenile (2cy). The pale plumage is not due to wear but is a plumage trait, some suggest that this is due to different geographical population being involved.'SC

'Had another walk around Wicken yesterday and saw an unusually large gathering of Pintails, about 20+ birds. Have attached 3 considerably cropped record shots (the ducks were over 2 hundred metres away). The drakes were performing interesting courtship displays.' RC

Caspian Gull

2CY Female Caspian Gull, Landbeach, 10th February 2013 © Steve Cooper 'Flooded fields along the Cottenham Road at Landbeach have been attracting good numbers of day roosting gulls for the past couple of months. On Sunday this cute female 2cy Caspian Gull was present amongst the brutish ‘argentatus’ Herring Gulls and Greater Black Backs as I drove by... The stretching shot shows the the underwing pattern of variable brown markings on a white background so typical of this species.'SC

A consolation following the abortive wait for the Hen Harrier - it showed for just a couple of seconds before diving into it's roost.
